Pigs love to wallow in mud, but not because they are dirty — they actually do it to stay cool! Pigs do not have sweat glands like we do, so rolling in mud is their way of lowering their body temperature on a hot day. Mud also protects their skin from sunburn and insect bites. Pigs are very smart animals and have been shown to solve simple puzzles.
Coloring ideas: color the pig a soft rosy pink, with a slightly darker pink for the ears and snout. The mud puddle can be a warm light brown or tan. Add some darker brown splashes around the edges of the puddle for a fun, messy look.
Toddlers will enjoy the big round pig shape — great for filling with a thick pink crayon. You can make it a game: before coloring, ask your child what sound a pig makes!
