Panda Eating Bamboo Coloring Page

A round, fluffy giant panda sits comfortably on the ground, holding a tall bamboo stalk in both paws and happily munching on the green leaves, with more bamboo leaves scattered below.

Giant pandas spend up to 16 hours a day eating bamboo — that is because bamboo is not very nutritious, so they need enormous quantities of it. An adult panda can eat 12 to 38 kilograms of bamboo shoots, leaves, and stems every single day. Despite being classified as carnivores, pandas eat almost nothing but bamboo. They have a special wrist bone that works like a thumb, helping them grip bamboo stalks.

Coloring ideas: pandas are famously black and white, but you can vary the shading — try a warm dark brown instead of solid black for the eye patches, ears, shoulders, and legs. Keep the round face, belly, and body white. Color the bamboo stalk a medium green with lighter yellow-green joints.

For younger kids, the big simple black and white shapes are very satisfying to fill in. Older kids can count the bamboo leaf shapes and practice painting each one a slightly different shade of green.
