Giraffe Eating from a Tall Tree Coloring Page

A tall giraffe cranes its long neck up to nibble leaves from the canopy of a spreading acacia tree, its distinctive large patch pattern covering the neck and body down to the hooves.

Giraffes are the tallest animals on Earth, with adults reaching up to about 5.5 metres — their neck alone can be nearly 2 metres long. Despite this, giraffes have the same number of neck bones as humans: just seven. Their favourite food is the leaves of acacia trees, which they gather with a prehensile tongue that can be up to 45 centimetres long and is naturally dark purplish-black, possibly to protect it from sunburn.

Coloring ideas: color the giraffe's patches a warm burnt orange or reddish-brown and leave the spaces between them a creamy tan. Color the acacia tree leaves a rich green and the trunk a warm brown. The remaining leaves the giraffe is nibbling could be the same green, slightly lighter at the tips.

For younger kids, the large open patches between the giraffe's markings are perfect squares and rectangles to color without going outside the lines. Older kids can try using two different shades within each patch for a natural, varied look.
