Elephant Spraying Water Coloring Page

A cheerful young elephant stands with its trunk raised high, shooting a sparkling arc of water droplets up and over its head, its big ears spread wide and tail tuft showing.

Elephants use their trunks for many things: breathing, smelling, drinking, picking up food, making sounds, and cooling themselves by spraying water. An elephant's trunk has no bones — it is made entirely of muscle and can hold up to 8 litres of water. Elephants are also excellent swimmers and use their trunks like a snorkel when crossing deep rivers.

Coloring ideas: color the elephant's skin a medium grey with slightly darker grey lines to show wrinkles. Color the water spray a bright sky blue, with lighter blue or white highlights on each individual water droplet. The flat ground can be a warm sandy brown.

For younger kids, the large round body is easy to fill with grey. Older kids can try adding wrinkle lines with a slightly darker grey pencil across the legs and trunk for a realistic leathery skin effect.
