Many monkeys swing through trees using a motion called brachiation, using their arms to travel from branch to branch. Spider monkeys and gibbons are especially skilled at this. Monkeys that live in rainforests have evolved long arms and flexible shoulder joints for exactly this purpose. Their prehensile tails — tails that can grip — work like a fifth limb, helping them hold on while reaching for food.
Coloring ideas: color the monkey's body a warm golden-brown or tan, with a lighter cream or peach on the face and belly. Color the vine a rich dark brown with a twisting rope texture. The surrounding jungle leaves can be filled with many shades of green — from bright lime to deep forest green.
For younger kids, the monkey's face and body are easy to color. Older kids can fill in all the different leaf shapes with a variety of greens, making the jungle feel lush and full of life.
