Rocket Ship Launching Coloring Page

A powerful space shuttle-style rocket blasts off from its launch pad, three engine nozzles blazing and thick smoke clouds billowing below, with stars and a crescent moon gleaming in the dark sky above.

Rockets work by burning fuel and oxygen together to create hot gases that blast out of nozzles at the bottom — this pushes the rocket upward according to Newton's Third Law of Motion. To reach orbit, a rocket must accelerate to about 28,000 kilometres per hour. The large clouds of white steam around the launch pad are actually water vapor, released to protect the launch structure from the intense heat.

Coloring ideas: color the rocket body white with orange or black markings on the fuel tank. The engine exhaust plumes look spectacular in orange, red, and yellow at the center fading to white and gray at the edges. Color the launch pad structure in dark gray or black metal tones. Stars can be tiny yellow or white dots.

Kids can count the rocket engines. Older children can draw a launch pad gantry or a mission control building in the background for extra detail.
