Our solar system has eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The four inner planets are rocky and relatively small, while the four outer planets are giant balls of gas and ice. Saturn is famous for its spectacular rings made of billions of ice chunks and rocks. Jupiter is the largest planet, so massive that all other planets could fit inside it.
Coloring ideas: make Mercury and the Moon-like bodies gray, Venus pale yellow, Earth blue and green, and Mars rusty red-orange. Jupiter gets bold bands of orange, cream, and brown with a large red oval storm. Saturn's rings are golden tan and cream. Uranus and Neptune both have icy blue-green tones.
Kids can label each planet after coloring to practice the order. A fun mnemonic to remember the order: My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nachos — each first letter matches a planet.
