Turkey Wearing a Pilgrim Hat Coloring Page

A plump, happy turkey wears a tall pilgrim hat perched on its head, its magnificent fan of scalloped tail feathers spread wide behind it, standing in a patch of grass with a cheerful beak-open expression.

Turkeys are highly social birds that live in flocks and communicate through a variety of sounds. The famous gobbling call is made only by male turkeys and can be heard up to a mile away. Turkeys have also been known to recognize individual human faces. Wild turkeys can run at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour and can even fly for short distances at up to 55 miles per hour, despite their large size.

Coloring ideas: turkeys have iridescent feathers in the wild that shimmer with green, copper, bronze, and red tones in sunlight. Give each ring of tail feathers its own earthy color — try deep reds, warm browns, and mossy greens — and color the spots on the feather tips darker. The pilgrim hat is classic black and white, but a dark navy with a golden buckle also looks great. Color the wattle (the fleshy part under the beak) a bright red.

For younger kids, the round body is a satisfying big shape, and the fan of feathers can each be done in a single color. Older kids can add iridescent shimmer by coloring each feather in two tones — for example orange on the outer edge fading to red toward the center.
