Cornucopia Overflowing with Harvest Coloring Page

A beautifully woven cornucopia horn tumbles over with a generous autumn harvest — pumpkins, round apples, clusters of grapes, an ear of corn, and a pear all spill out onto a bed of oak and maple leaves, with an acorn nestled in the corner.

The cornucopia, also called the horn of plenty, comes from ancient Greek mythology. According to legend, the infant Zeus accidentally broke off a goat's horn, which then filled itself endlessly with fruit and flowers — making it a symbol of abundance. The word cornucopia comes from two Latin words: cornu meaning horn and copia meaning plenty. It became a symbol of the harvest season and Thanksgiving in North America.

Coloring ideas: this image has many different fruit and vegetable shapes, each one a chance to use a new color. Make the pumpkins bright orange, the apples red or green, the grapes deep purple, the corn bright yellow. The cornucopia basket itself can be a golden tan or warm brown with darker lines showing the weave. Autumn leaves along the base look rich in red, orange, and russet brown.

This detailed image suits older kids and patient colorers. Younger children can pick just one or two sections to fill in. Try working from the outermost items inward, or color all fruit of one type the same color throughout the image.
