Steam Train on Tracks Coloring Page

A classic steam locomotive with a tall smokestack puffing a billowing steam cloud chuffs along railway tracks, its large driving wheels spinning, a coal-filled tender car trailing behind.

Steam locomotives powered the first railways in the early 1800s and transformed transportation around the world. Water was heated inside the boiler to create steam, which pushed pistons that turned the enormous driving wheels. A large locomotive could pull hundreds of tonnes of cargo and reach speeds of over 200 kilometres per hour.

Coloring ideas: paint the locomotive a deep classic black or a rich Brunswick green, which was used on many famous historical engines. Color the boiler bands and trim in gold or brass. The puffing steam cloud can be left white or tinted light gray. Rails are silver and the wooden railway ties are brown.

Kids can count the driving wheels and the rail ties stretching back into the distance. Older kids can add a landscape of rolling hills and distant trees in the background behind the tracks.
