Ladybug on a Leaf Coloring Page

A round, smiling ladybug with large circular spots on its back clings happily to a big leaf, surrounded by smaller leaves on a plant stem, a daisy flower, and tufts of garden grass below.

Ladybugs — also called ladybirds or lady beetles — are actually a type of beetle, not a bug in the scientific sense. There are about 5,000 different species of ladybug worldwide, and they come in red, orange, yellow, and even black with spots of various colors. Ladybugs are beloved by gardeners because they eat aphids — tiny plant-damaging insects — by the hundreds each day, acting as natural pest control.

Coloring ideas: the most common ladybug is bright red with seven black spots, but you can make your ladybug any color. Try orange with black spots, yellow with black spots, or even pink with white spots for a fantasy ladybug. Color the leaf in two shades of green — lighter on one half, darker on the other — to show sunlight hitting it.

Kids can count the spots and practice drawing symmetrical patterns. Younger children can try to make the spots on the left wing match the spots on the right wing.
