Bumblebee and Honeycomb Coloring Page

A fuzzy round bumblebee with striped body and delicate veined wings hovers busily beside a large honeycomb panel full of hexagonal cells, with several garden flowers blooming around it.

Bumblebees are among the most important pollinators in the world — they transfer pollen between flowers as they feed on nectar, helping plants produce fruit and seeds. Unlike honeybees, bumblebees can pollinate flowers even in cold, cloudy weather by vibrating their flight muscles rapidly in a technique called buzz pollination. A bumblebee's fuzzy coat helps pollen stick to it as it moves from flower to flower.

Coloring ideas: color the bumblebee's body with alternating yellow and black fuzzy stripes, leaving the wings mostly white with delicate light gray veins. The honeycomb cells look wonderful in golden amber or rich yellow. Try shading some cells slightly darker to suggest different stages of honey filling. Color the flowers in bright contrasting colors — reds, purples, and oranges.

Kids can count all the hexagonal cells in the honeycomb. A fun fact to discuss while coloring: each cell in a real honeycomb is a perfect hexagon because bees build them that way instinctively — it is the most efficient shape.
