Many dinosaurs are believed to have cared for their young, much like some modern birds do today. Fossil sites called bonebeds have been found where many individuals of the same species of different ages died together, suggesting they lived in family groups or herds for protection. Long-necked sauropod dinosaurs — the largest animals ever to walk the Earth — could eat enormous amounts of plant material thanks to their long reach.
Coloring ideas: give the large parent a warm sandy yellow and the two younger dinosaurs slightly different shades — perhaps pale green for the long-neck youngster and light orange for the small horned one. Color the river a bright sky blue with darker streaks for flowing water, and use green and brown for the plants and trees.
Younger kids can enjoy filling in the big round shapes of the clouds and the broad bodies. Older kids can try adding water ripple patterns on the river and different shades of green on the trees to make the scene feel alive.
