Most dinosaurs hatched from eggs, just like birds and reptiles do today. Dinosaur eggs came in many shapes — some were round and some were long — and many dinosaurs built nests on the ground, sometimes in groups called rookeries. Scientists have found fossilized nests with eggs still arranged in a circle, showing that some dinosaurs were careful parents.
Coloring ideas: give the eggshell a creamy white or pale blue base and use light brown or grey for the dark oval spots. Color the baby dinosaur's skin a bright lime green or soft teal to contrast with the egg. The surrounding fern leaves look great in two or three shades of green.
Toddlers and younger kids can color the big egg shape first with a single crayon. Older kids can try hatching lines on the broken shell pieces and add shadows around the cracks for a more dramatic effect.
