Hamsters are small rodents that are naturally active mostly at night, which is why they love running wheels so much. In the wild, hamsters can run up to eight kilometres in a single night searching for food. A pet hamster's wheel gives it the same exercise indoors.
Coloring ideas: give the hamster a golden-brown or sandy coat, leaving the tummy a lighter cream color. The wheel frame could be bright red or blue, with gray spokes. Try a soft peach or pink for the hamster's round ears and nose.
For toddlers, use chunky crayons to color the big round wheel first, then fill in the hamster's fluffy body. You can count the spokes together for a fun math moment!
