Smiling Shark Coloring Page

A friendly shark swims forward with a big wide smile and rows of rounded teeth, its tall dorsal fin standing up proudly, while small fish dart nearby above an ocean floor with seaweed and a starfish.

Sharks are ancient fish — they have been swimming the oceans for over 450 million years, long before dinosaurs walked the Earth. Most sharks must keep swimming continuously to breathe, forcing water over their gills. Sharks have multiple rows of teeth that move forward to replace lost ones — over a lifetime, a shark may grow and lose tens of thousands of teeth. Despite their fearsome reputation, fewer than ten people are killed by sharks worldwide each year, while sharks are vital to healthy ocean ecosystems.

Coloring ideas: color the shark's back a blue-grey or medium grey and leave the belly white or very pale grey — this two-tone pattern is common in real sharks. The small fish in the background can be bright blue or orange for contrast. Color the seaweed dark green and the starfish orange or pink.

For younger kids, the large smooth torpedo shape is easy to fill with grey. Older kids can add detail to the overlapping triangular teeth and color the gills as dark grey slashes along the side of the body.
