Fruit Basket Coloring Page

A woven basket with a rounded handle holds a big apple with a leaf, a long banana, a round orange with a leaf, and a bunch of grapes — all in bold simple outlines perfect for toddlers.

Fruits are the seed-bearing parts of flowering plants, and they come in thousands of shapes, colors, and flavors. Apples and grapes are some of the oldest cultivated fruits — humans have been growing them for at least 4,000 to 8,000 years. Bananas are technically a berry in botanical terms, and they grow in large clusters called hands on tropical plants that can reach six meters tall. Oranges are a hybrid fruit that does not exist naturally in the wild — they were created by crossing a pomelo with a mandarin thousands of years ago in ancient China or Southeast Asia.

Coloring ideas: make the apple bright red or yellow-green, the banana sunny yellow, the orange a warm orange, and the grapes deep purple or bright green. Color the basket in tan and brown, with slightly darker lines for the woven pattern, and the handle in a slightly different brown shade.

This is a great page for teaching colors and fruit names. Ask young children to name each fruit and its real-life color before they begin. For a fun activity, try drawing in additional fruits around the basket — a strawberry or a pear — and then color those too.
